Must Visit Places in Udalguri, Assam - An Epitome of Tea-Tourism, Jungle-Safari, Flora and Fauna
Udalguri is one of the unfamiliar and
unexplored tourist destinations in Assam, India. Decent climate, mystical
hills, cool breeze, and rich aroma of tea plantations will immerse your senses
once you enter into this picturesque place of Udalguri.

Udalguri can be reached by train, road
or by air. The nearest airport to Udalguri is at Guwahati, located approximately 100
kilometres away from Udalguri. One can take a cab from Guwahati airport to
Udalguri town. Udalguri is also well-connected by rail, one can take a train
from Guwahati and reach Udalguri town. Both train and cab will take two-and
half hour to reach Udalguri from Guwahati.

1. Corramore Tea Estate

If you really want to explore and witness the ecstasy of tea plantation in Assam, Corramore Tea Estate is a must visit place where nature makes medley with soothing climate, evergreen hill ranges, and tea plantations. One will be mesmerized by the unique blend of colour and an almost inspired arrangement of flora and fauna.
The Corramore Tea Estate was founded in the year 1860 by Robert Logan from Scotland, and is located in Hatigarh, in the Udalguri district of Assam, and is a heritage property now owned by Williamson Tea. Corramore tea estate is around 27 kms from Udalguri town and 120 kms from Guwahati. Today, Corramore has become a nature lovers paradise with a downy carpet of green tea leaves stretched all over the plain and hilly ranges where one can also witness the exceptional panoramic views of the Kaziranga hills, located in Bhutan.
The Corramore Tea Estate also has green runway, with the silent hills behind with a perfect carpet of tea spreading into the horizon on the either side.

Farther 10 kms from Corramore Tea Estate, one can visit Daojeng, which is full of small streams, and has a beautiful sight.
2. Bhairabkunda
Bhairabkunda is a small town area under the Udalguri district and is one of the most popular tourist destination of Assam. Situated in the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, it is located in the tri-junction of Bhutan, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. This place is also a meeting point of the three rivers - Jia Dhansiri, Bhairavi and Daifam. The river shore is gorgeous, caudal, calm, clean, and surrounded by majestic mountains. Another special attraction of this place is that it shares border with Bhutan and stands as a suitable entry-point to the country. One can visit the scenic beauty of the Bhutanese town Daifam, which is famous for wine trade from the entry-point.
Of late, the government has put up recreational
activities to promote tourism which includes various sports activities like
river rafting, kayaking etc. Another main attraction of this place is the Bhairabkunda
Tourism Festival which is normally held in the month of January to showcase the
rich cultural heritage of the place, flora and fauna, light shows, fashion that
weaves a tale of countless hues together.

During the winters, you will notice tourist thronging themselves to this famous picnic spot. Bhairabkunda is also famous because it falls in the tr-junction of Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. If you are at Bhairabkunda, you can enter Bhutan by preparing pass at the Bhutan Gate. You need to carry your Voter ID or Passport to prepare the Pass to enter Bhutan. You will get to see the beutifull houses of Bhutan on the other side and can enjoy the calmness. You will also observe how discipline the people of Bhutan are as soon as you enter their territory. |
3. Phulbari Village
If you are not comfortable with large crowd and want peace and tranquility of mind, you may visit a small village called Phulbari which is just 10 kms away from Udalguri town and is at the backyard of Bhairabkunda (some 10 kms away). Phulbari will equally mesmerize you.

4. Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary
Named after the river Bornadi, Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary was established specially to protect the Pygmy Hog (Sus salvanius) and Hispid Hare (Caprolagus hispidus). The sanctuary spreads between Udalguri and Baksa districts of Assam and also flanks Bhutan border. Other animals found in the sanctuary are Golden Langur, Clouded Leopard, Hoolock Gibbon, and White-Winged Wood Duck.
About 60% of the sanctuary is reported to be grassland, most of it is now grassy woodland. One can take a Jeep Safari to enjoy the grasslands and see the animals by taking Jeep Safari.

5. Tenzing Bodosa Tree House, Kwirani, Dimakuchi
Founded by the Tenzing Bodosa, who own the world’s first elephant-friendly farms, the tree house is located in Khairani, No.2 Neoli, Dimakuchi, Udalguri, Assam. The Tree house is beautifully constructed and one can get a beautiful view of the tea plantation surrounding the place. Accommodation facilities are available on the Tree house along with tents. Surrounded by hills, one can also visit the world’s First Elephant-Friendly Corridor nearby.

Apart from the above scenic places, one must visit places like “Orang National Park”, “Bogamati Picnic Spot” which are within 30 kms away from the district headquarter but doesn't fall in Udalguri.

ReplyDeleteThe nearest airport to the place mentioned above is Guwahati intl airport. Guwahati is connected to almost all the major cities including Kolkata by air. From Guwahati, you may hire a prepaid cab inside the airport or hire any other private cab to reach Udalguri. All the places mentioned in the blog are within a periphery of 30 kms from Udalguri town.
